The Bethesda Row shopping and entertainment area in downtown Bethesda is within walking distance of the Academy training facility. Bethesda Row is a model of urban planning. A quiet and visually unappealing district has been transformed into an authentic neighborhood with a network of public gathering spots, giving it a sense of place. The streets bring shoppers in, but they also form the backbone of this network of public spaces for pedestrians, where the primary entertainment becomes people watching.

The city offers a variety of free guides to help you plan your time outside of the Academy.

Bethesda offers some of the hottest dining spots in the DC Metro area. The dining scene is eclectic; if you are here for just a week you'll have some tough choices to make. Many area restaurants offer outdoor dining; unwind al fresco after a day of tackling the harsh realities of federal sales.

Plan your free time. Bethesda has a thriving Arts and Entertainment District, if you're not taking an afternoon class; catch a matinee at the Indie film house or roam the galleries on Wisconsin and Woodmont Avenues.

Day off from classes? Go shopping! From fresh fruit at the Farmer's Market to furs on Wisconsin Avenue, bring your walking shoes and your wallet.

Don't abandon your fitness routine; indoor and outdoor recreation is within walking distance of most hotels and the Academy.
