Tips for Keyword Searching
To get an initial feel for bid results, it's best to start out searching broadly. For example, use a single keyword if it is both unique to your industry and frequently used in bid notices -- e.g., janitorial or custodial. If you start out using two or more words, you may miss relevant bid opportunities -- e.g., janitorial services will miss bid notices where the title reads "Services, Janitorial."
Common Words
Do not enter common words such as Inc, the, to and any. Oracle ConText rejects these words in order to speed up search time.
Finding Keywords Within Documents:
You'll note that some of the bid opportunity pages you find are long and filled with text. To locate relevant solicitation information on such pages, you might use the Find feature on your browser.
- Netscape Navigator: Click the Find button on the tool bar (or select it from the Edit menu) and enter the word to search for on that page. Use Find again (Edit menu) to search for the next use of the same word.
- Internet Explorer: Select Find from the Edit menu and enter the word to search for on that page. Use Find Again (Edit menu) to search for the next use of the same word.
Free Viewer Software:
Solicitation documents are often made available on the web in .pdf format. To read .pdf documents, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free program. To get the program, click on the image below and follow the instructions for installation.
